Step 2 · Licensing

Get licensed. We pay for the course.

You need a Life & Health insurance license to access our full lead pool. Your home state license is your first step — then add non-resident states to widen your territory. Here's the exact path, plus the study system that gets most agents to first-time pass.

How to get licensed — step by step

From application to your first contracted carrier in roughly 3–6 weeks.

1

Register for Pre-Licensing Course

The agency covers the cost of your pre-licensing course — it's on us. Once your application is approved, you'll receive login credentials to your pre-licensing platform. Most states require 20–40 hours. Complete the course and pass the final exam to receive your certificate before booking your state exam.

2

Schedule Your State Exam

Use Pearson VUE or PSI Services (check your state's DOI website). Book your exam within 1–3 days of completing pre-licensing. Exam fee: $40–$85. Choose a testing center near you or a remote proctored option.

3

Pass Your Exam

Focus on: Term Life, Whole Life, Annuities, Medicare Supplement basics, insurable interest, policy riders, and state regulations. Use ExamFX practice tests daily. Study the SimExam section — it mirrors real exam questions. Target score: 85%+ on practice before sitting.

4

Apply for Your Home State License

Go to NIPR.com. Submit your license application within 30 days of passing. You'll need your exam certificate, SSN, background authorization, and application fee. Processing takes 1–10 business days depending on state.

5

Apply for Non-Resident Licenses

Once your home state license is active, apply for all non-resident states through NIPR.com. Most non-resident applications are quick and straightforward — no additional exam required. Budget 1–2 weeks for all approvals.

6

Get E&O Coverage

Errors & Omissions insurance is required before contracting. E&O for independent agents runs approximately $30/month. Your agency manager will provide the recommended E&O provider when you complete onboarding. Submit proof with your contracting paperwork.

7

Complete Carrier Contracting

You'll receive contracting links through our agency. Complete your carrier appointments for each company listed in the Carriers section. This takes 3–7 business days per carrier. You cannot submit applications until contracting is approved.

Study Tips

Pass on the first try.

Daily Study Schedule

2 hours of pre-licensing content per day. Complete the course in 5–7 days. Then spend 2 full days doing nothing but practice exams. If you score 85%+ consistently, you're ready. Your course access will be provided by the agency after your application is approved.

Key Topics to Master

  • Types of life insurance: Term, Whole, Universal
  • Policy provisions and riders (waiver of premium, etc.)
  • Insurable interest and beneficiary rules
  • State regulations and unfair practices
  • Annuity basics (fixed, variable, indexed)
  • Health insurance: major medical, HMO, PPO
  • Medicare supplement plans A–N
Pro Tip: Don't over-study broad health topics. Focus 70% of your energy on Life Insurance and State Regulations — that's where most questions come from on the final expense agent exam path.

E&O Insurance Guide

Errors & Omissions — required before contracting.

Every carrier we work with requires proof of E&O coverage before they'll appoint you. The good news: it's inexpensive, easy to bind, and your agency manager will hand you the recommended provider during onboarding.
